vocation
fvc symposium this week, monday to thursday.
first lecturer today, gave us not a talk on HOW to get into vet school, but perhaps more an inspiration.
he told us that veterinary work is like a vocation, something that we won't be doing because it is something to make m oney from, but doing it because we feel a calling to it (rather poetic i guess), and because it will inspire us and we'll love it. this is good, because i want to feel passionate about my work and what i will be doing. not just go into the office everyday and wanting out of there an hour into work.
he also told us that getting into vet school shouldn't be a life long goal, we should think about after vet school. ok, we get into vet school, graduated, so what? there would be "more mountains after you've climbed this mountain". there will always be more things to pursue, don't fall apart after this goal has been achieved. it is a goal afterall not to get into vet school, but to become a vet, so we can do something out of it. i agree.
what i learned most from his one hour lecture/talk, is that drive and passion is the most important. and will keep that in mind. noticed from lectures too this semester that the profs are all passionate about what they study, that they seem kind of awkward sometime, but respectable.
